INVICTUS

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods maybe

For my unconquerable soul.

.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeoning of chance

My head is bloody but unbowed.

.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds and shall find me unafraid.

.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll,

I am the master of my fate,

I am the captain of my soul.

.

Review:

Theme: Spirituality

The inspiring message of the poem is bravery and perseverance in the face of adversity. The poem encourages anyone going through or anticipating challenges to face them with courage and determination. Henley wrote numerous poems about his hospital experiences, depicting his tenacious fight against the terrible disease. My favourite verse of this poem is "I am the captain of my soul."  Society should be able to face the problems and be brave in any circumstances. They should not feel weak nor should be overwhelmed by the problems.
